Choi Mi-sun

Choi Mi-sun is an Olympic gold medalist and world record-holding archer, known for her precision and consistent performance in international competitions. After a significant breakthrough in 2015 with two stage wins at the World Cup in Antalya and an individual gold at the Archery World Cup finals, Choi Mi-sun established herself as a prominent figure in the sport, making her international debut in 2013. Her successful 2015 season began with a third-place finish in the women’s individual event at the Archery World Cup in Shanghai. This was swiftly followed by two stage wins at the World Cup’s second leg in Antalya, where she secured gold in both the individual tournament and the mixed team event alongside Kim Woojin.

That same year, she earned multiple medals at the World Archery Championships and claimed an individual gold at the Archery World Cup finals. In 2016, Mi-sun was selected for her inaugural Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she joined the formidable South Korean women’s team, including Chang Hye-jin and Ki Bo-bae. She earned her first Olympic medal, a gold, as part of the women’s team event, contributing to South Korea’s eighth consecutive Olympic title in the category. Her individual performance at the 2016 Olympics saw her secure the top seed in the ranking round with an impressive 669 points, ultimately reaching the quarter-finals.

Mi-sun continued her medal-winning streak into 2023, achieving two gold medals at the Asian Archery Championships in Bangkok: one in the Individual Recurve and another in the Team Recurve category. Her career is further highlighted by numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals across prestigious competitions, including multiple World Cup stages, World Cup Finals, World Championships, Asian Games, Asian Championships, and the Summer Universiade, solidifying her integral role in upholding South Korea’s enduring legacy in the sport of archery.
