Korea Choi Mi-sun is an Olympic gold medalist and world record-holding archer, known for her precision and consistent performance in international competitions.

Choi Mi-sun, born on July 1, 1996, in Muan County, South Korea, is a highly decorated recurve archer. Her international career began in 2013, quickly establishing her as a prominent figure in the sport. Choi made her significant breakthrough in 2015, making her international debut at the 2015 Archery World Cup in Shanghai, where she secured a third-place finish in the women’s individual event. This initial success was followed by two stage wins at the World Cup’s second leg in Antalya, where she triumphed in both the individual tournament and the mixed team event alongside Kim Woojin. That same year, she earned multiple medals at the World Archery Championships and claimed an individual gold at the Archery World Cup finals.
In 2016, Choi Mi-sun was selected for her first Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She joined the South Korean women’s team, which included fellow archers Chang Hye-jin and Ki Bo-bae, to defend their titles. At the Rio Olympics, Choi earned her first Olympic medal, a gold, as part of the women’s team event, contributing to South Korea’s eighth consecutive women’s team Olympic title. Her individual performance at the 2016 Olympics included securing the top seed in the ranking round with 669 points, although her journey in the individual event concluded in the quarter-finals. In 2017, she continued to set new standards by breaking the world record for a 72-arrow round with 687 points at the Summer Universiade in Taipei City. That year, she also secured her first World Championship gold medal in Mexico City as part of the women’s team.
After a brief absence from the national team in 2018, Choi Mi-sun returned to international competition for the 2019 season. She has consistently demonstrated her expertise and skill, maintaining her position as a leading archer. Her career is marked by numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals across various prestigious competitions, including World Cup stages, World Cup Finals, World Championships, Asian Games, Asian Championships, and the Summer Universiade. Her achievements underscore her role in maintaining South Korea’s dominance in the sport of archery.
