About

Christian Vieri was born in Bologna, Italy, on July 12, 1973. As a child, his family moved to Sydney, Australia, where his father, Roberto Vieri, played football for Marconi Stallions. It was in Australia that Christian, nicknamed ‘Bobo,’ developed a passion for both football and cricket, even expressing a desire to be a professional cricketer. At the age of 14, he returned to Italy to pursue his football aspirations. He began his youth career at Santa Lucia and Prato before joining Torino in 1991. His professional debut followed shortly after, at 18, scoring in a Coppa Italia match. He spent several seasons in Serie B with clubs like Pisa, Ravenna, and Venezia, honing his skills before moving to Atalanta in Serie A in 1995.

Vieri’s career progressed rapidly. He joined Juventus for the 1996–97 season, where he won the Scudetto and reached the UEFA Champions League final. His impressive form led to a move to Atlético Madrid in 1997 for £12.5 million, where he earned the Pichichi Trophy as the league’s top scorer with 24 goals in 24 appearances. The following season, he transferred to Lazio for €25 million, winning the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999. His impactful performances culminated in a world-record transfer of €49 million to Inter Milan in 1999, where he spent six seasons, scoring 103 goals in 143 Serie A appearances and becoming the Serie A Capocannoniere in the 2002–03 season.

Internationally, Vieri represented Italy, scoring 23 goals in 49 appearances between 1997 and 2005. He is recognized as Italy’s joint-highest World Cup goalscorer with nine goals across the 1998 and 2002 tournaments. Despite injuries later in his career, he continued to play for clubs such as AC Milan, Monaco, Sampdoria, Atalanta (again), and Fiorentina before retiring in 2009. Post-retirement, Vieri transitioned into media work, becoming a pundit and launching a successful Twitch-based podcast, “Bobo TV.” He also co-founded clothing lines and engaged in various business ventures.
