Dabboo Ratnani is an Indian fashion and commercial photographer, born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He studied Commerce at M. M. K. College. Ratnani began his career by gaining practical experience as an assistant photographer with Sumit Chopra for approximately three years. This early work involved commercial products, which prepared him to establish his own independent photography practice in 1995. This marked the start of his professional journey in photography, leading to his influence in the Indian fashion and celebrity photography industry.
Ratnani is widely recognized for his annual calendar, which first launched in 1999. This calendar annually features photographs of 24 celebrities, including prominent figures from Bollywood such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Bipasha Basu, Arjun Rampal, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others. Beyond his calendar work, Ratnani has contributed to numerous magazine covers, including GQ, Filmfare, Hello, Stardust, Femina, and Better Homes and Gardens. His portfolio also includes significant publicity and advertising campaigns for various brands.
Throughout his career, Ratnani has engaged in other industry roles. In 2006, he served as a jury member for the Miss India contest. He also acted as a mentor for the television show “India’s Next Top Model,” which aired on MTV India. In 2020, Ratnani was acknowledged in the N4M List of Top 10 fashion photographers of India. He has completed over 26 years in the profession, establishing himself as a significant figure in portrait and celebrity photography.
