Daung is a Burmese film and television actor and former footballer who rose to fame with his role in the 2019 film “The Only Mom.” Known for his method acting, Daung stands out in an industry often dominated by melodramatic performances. He initially moved to Yangon to pursue a singing career but later signed a three-year contract in 2010 to play as a striker for Southern Myanmar F.C.
Daung made his acting debut in 2015 with a leading role in “The Second Heart,” after being selected by Satori Creative Works from nearly 500 amateur actors. He gained further recognition in 2017 for his role in the film “Little Umbrella Story” alongside Paing Phyo Thu, which was a domestic hit.
His popularity soared with the 2017 television series “Bagan Myo Thu,” where he played Maung Maung Gyi. The series, which aired on MRTV-4, was a commercial success and became the most-watched Burmese television drama at the time.
In 2018, Daung starred in the horror-thriller film “The Only Mom” with Wutt Hmone Shwe Yi and Nine Nine, directed by Chatchai Katenut. The film was a major hit, staying in theaters for seven weeks and screening in 13 other countries. He also played the lead in the film “Wind up Dancer” and starred in the TV series “Longing with Love.”
Daung continued his successful streak with the epic drama “Legend of the Rain” in 2019, co-starring with Wutt Hmone Shwe Yi, Ye Deight, and Shwe Htoo. In 2020, he became an ambassador for the Doh Gabar campaign, an environmental awareness initiative.
Expanding his horizons, Daung was cast in the Thai drama series “From Chao Phraya to Irrawaddy,” which won Best TV Drama of the Year and Best Creative Team of the Year at the Nineentertain awards 2023 in Thailand. Daung’s diverse talents and dynamic presence continue to make him a prominent figure in Burmese cinema and beyond.
