Becki Newton

Becki Newton was born on July 4, 1978, in New Haven, Connecticut, and grew up in Guilford, Connecticut. She began her performing career at age 13 in local productions and summer stock theater. Her academic pursuits led her to the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied European History and spent several semesters abroad, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Following her graduation, Newton relocated to New York City to pursue a career in Broadway, quickly building her portfolio with national commercials and guest-starring roles in television series such as “Cold Case” (2003), “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (1999), and “American Dreams” (2002).

Newton’s career gained significant momentum when she landed the role of Amanda Tanen in the ABC comedy-drama series “Ugly Betty” (2006–2010). Her performance as the sharp-witted receptionist earned her critical recognition, including two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and a Glamour Award for Comedy Actress in 2009. During her time on “Ugly Betty,” she also co-hosted the official podcast for the series and starred in the ABC.com web series “Mode After Hours.” Following “Ugly Betty,” Newton continued to expand her television work. She appeared in the NBC series “Love Bites” (2011), acted as Quinn Garvey, a recurring love interest for Barney Stinson in “How I Met Your Mother” (2012–2013), and took on a main role in the Fox comedy series “The Goodwin Games” (2013).

More recently, Newton has held recurring roles in HBO’s “Divorce” (2018–2019) and CBS All Access’ “Tell Me a Story” (2018–2019). In a significant career milestone, she joined the cast of the Netflix series “The Lincoln Lawyer” in 2021, portraying Lorna Crane, Mickey Haller’s ex-wife and office manager. This role has further solidified her presence in contemporary television, demonstrating her sustained career progression and capacity for diverse character portrayals.
