Head-turning drag artist Daya Betty made her world debut on Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. With an edgy underground punk style, the 6ft 4 goddess is known for her ability to craft breath-taking looks from any material she can get hold of, serving 80s-influenced rock star realness and stunning artistry. Daya loves nothing more than working with recycled materials and unconventional finds to create her uniquely bold looks, but there’s more to her persona than just stunning visual aesthetics. With a background in musical theater, she loves nothing more than connecting to a room packed full of strangers through song and dance –just one of the skills that helped her reach the final of Drag Race.
Daya Betty first got started in the tough dive bar scene of Springfield, Missouri. After stomping the clubs in her heels, she exploded onto Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race leaving a lasting impression on the judges after taking risks on the show. Drag has never been about perfection and glamour for Daya, but more about the blood, sweat and tears and the ability to create something incredible from nothing.
Making history as the first publicised Drag Race contestant with Type 1 diabetes (her drag name is a nod to some of her health struggles), Daya has shown the world how anyone can achieve their dreams whilst managing the illness. Whatever happens next in her post-Drag Race career, you can always count on expecting the unexpected from Daya Betty.
