Derek Charles Blasberg was born on April 22, 1982, in St. Louis, Missouri. His father, Bill Blasberg, worked as a certified public accountant, and his mother, Carol Blasberg, was the managing editor of a medical journal. After graduating as salutatorian from Affton High School in 2000, Blasberg moved to New York City to attend New York University. During his college years, he began his career in fashion by writing biographies for models at Elite Model Management and Models 1, and held part-time positions at “W” magazine and “Vogue,” transitioning to a full-time role at “Vogue” after his 2004 graduation.
Blasberg further developed his writing career from 2006 to 2010 as the editor-at-large of Style.com, where he authored “The Blasblog.” In 2008, he edited “Influence,” a fashion and art book conceived by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. His debut book, “Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady,” published in April 2010, became a New York Times bestseller. This was followed by a sequel, “Very Classy: Even More Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady,” in October 2011.
