Dominique Wilkins

Dominique Wilkins, celebrated as ‘the Human Highlight Film,’ first distinguished himself as a standout player, earning back-to-back MVP honors for consecutive Class 3-A State Championships in 1978 and 1979. During his high school career, he showcased exceptional talent, notably in a single game where he scored 48 points, grabbed 27 rebounds, executed 9 dunks, and blocked 8 shots, leading to his inclusion in Sports Illustrated’s ‘Faces in the Crowd’ section. He further solidified his reputation in 1979, contributing 16 points and 12 rebounds in the McDonald’s All-American Game. Wilkins continued his electrifying performance at the University of Georgia, averaging 21.6 points per game throughout his tenure and earning a First Team All-Southeastern Conference selection in 1981.

In 2006, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. A statue commemorating his legacy was unveiled at Philips Arena (now State Farm Arena) in 2015, and in 2021, he was named to the prestigious NBA 75th Anniversary Team, solidifying his status as one of the league’s all-time greatest players. Today, Wilkins continues to influence the sports world in a respected role as a sports executive and brand ambassador.
