Dulquer Salmaan was born on July 28, 1986, in Kochi, Kerala, as the younger son of actor Mammootty and Sulfath Kutty. He received his primary education in Kerala before attending Sishya School in Chennai. Salmaan pursued higher education in the United States, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Purdue University. Following his studies, he worked as a business manager in Dubai. On December 22, 2011, he married Chennai-based architect Amal Sufiya, and they have a daughter, Maryam Ameerah Salmaan, born on May 5, 2017.
Salmaan’s entry into the film industry was a conscious decision to establish himself on merit rather than relying on his father’s acclaim. He honed his craft by completing a three-month acting course at the Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai. His acting career commenced in 2012 with the Malayalam crime film “Second Show,” followed by “Ustad Hotel,” which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut – South. Over the years, he expanded his filmography across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, demonstrating a capacity for diverse roles.
Beyond acting, Salmaan is an active entrepreneur and philanthropist. He owns a web portal for trading cars and a dental business chain in Chennai. Additionally, he serves as a director for the Bangalore-based Motherhood Hospital. His social contributions include participation in the Kerala motor vehicle department’s safe riding campaign and donating 150 items to the Chennai Gives initiative. In 2020, he launched his production company, Wayfarer Films, further diversifying his involvement in the film industry.
