Dzsenifer Marozsán was born in Budapest, Hungary, on April 18, 1992. She moved to Germany at the age of four when her father, János Marozsán, a four-time Hungarian international footballer, signed with 1. FC Saarbrücken. Her football career began at DJK Burbach, where she played on a boys’ team before joining the youth department of 1. FC Saarbrücken. At 14 years and 7 months, Marozsán became the youngest player in the German Bundesliga. She also holds the record as the Bundesliga’s youngest goal scorer at 15 years and 4 months. She was naturalized as a German citizen along with her family, allowing her to represent Germany internationally.
Marozsán signed with 1. FFC Frankfurt in 2009, playing 133 games and scoring 40 goals before moving to Lyon in 2016. During her time with Frankfurt, she reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in 2012 and later won the title in 2015, providing the assist for the winning goal. She was also named to the team of the tournament. In 2017, she received the UNFP Trophy for Best Player in D1 Féminine, an award she won for three consecutive seasons (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19). She has been a key player in Lyon’s success, contributing to multiple domestic and international titles. In 2018, she experienced a pulmonary embolism but returned to play three months later, demonstrating her resilience. On April 1, 2024, Marozsán played her 200th match for Olympique Lyonnais.
Internationally, Marozsán debuted for the German senior national team in 2010. She scored the game-winning goal in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 semifinal against Sweden, helping Germany win the championship. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, she led Germany to its first-ever Olympic gold medal in football, scoring the decisive goal in the final. She served as captain of the German team from 2016 and played her 100th international match in 2020. In March 2023, she announced her retirement from international football. Marozsán’s decorated career led to her being named the German Football Ambassador of 2023, an accolade recognizing her contributions to football.
