With a razor-sharp wit, and a curious sideline in haberdashery, comedian and writer Erica Sigurdson is one of the head figures of Canadian humour. First coming to prominence back in 2006, she has since gone on to win a Leo Award (the major film and television awards in British Columbia) and twice been nominated for a prestigious Canadian Comedy Award. One of her biggest successes to date has been her role on major CBC Radio series The Debaters, a show consisting of comedically-themed debates. Sigurdson was one of the debaters chosen to contribute to the programme when it transferred to television.
Other highly-related radio shows Sigurdson has contributed to as a writer or performer include The Current and long-running magazine programme Definitely Not the Opera. She has also made numerous guest appearances on the Stop Podcasting Yourself podcast. In 2007, Sigurdson took her stand-up into a warzone, being part of a group of comics that travelled to Afghanistan to perform for Canadian troops stationed there. This journey was documented in the CBC television special Stand Up in Kandahar. As a writer, she has contributed to comedy shows such as Corner Gas Animated, The Stand Up Comedians, Animal News Now, and Comedy Now! In addition to this, her stand-up routines have been featured on the likes of The Ha!ifax Comedy Fest and CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival.
Away from the cameras, Sigurdson is also regularly in demand as a performer at private and corporate events, bringing the same level of hilarity to events and conferences as she does to massive television and radio audiences.
