Ethan Ewing

Born on September 2, 1998, on North Stradbroke Island, Queensland, Australia, Ethan Ewing embarked on his professional surfing career in 2012, competing in the Junior World Championships. He made his debut in the Men’s Qualifying Series in 2015. In 2016, at the age of 18, Ewing became the World Junior Champion and secured the second position in the Qualifying Series, which led to his qualification for the World Surf League (WCT) surfing circuit. After a challenging initial year in 2017, where he finished 34th, Ewing spent three years outside of the elite professional surfing circuit, working on his skills.

Ewing returned to the elite tour in 2021 and began to establish himself as a prominent competitor. In 2022, he achieved a significant milestone by winning his first elite event, the Corona Open J-Bay in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. This victory solidified his position and led him to secure a spot at the WSL Finals, where he finished the season in 4th place globally. His performance trajectory continued to rise, culminating in his best WSL performance in 2023. He finished 3rd on the CT after the regular season and competed in the Rip Curl WSL Finals, where he ultimately finished 2nd in the world, achieving his highest career ranking to date.

In 2024, Ewing continued to compete at a high level, reaching second place at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal and securing a 4th-place finish in the regular season. This qualified him for the 2024 WSL Finals. Additionally, Ewing made his Olympic debut, representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he advanced to the quarterfinals. He is noted for his rail surfing technique, often drawing comparisons to surfers like Mick Fanning and Andy Irons, prioritizing speed, power, and flow in his approach to waves. His career reflects consistent progression and a dedication to competitive surfing at the highest level.
