Evan Carter

Evan Jason Carter was born on August 29, 2002, in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He attended Elizabethton High School, where he was an All-Conference selection in baseball for all three seasons he played. Carter initially committed to play college baseball at Duke University after his sophomore year. In 2020, the Texas Rangers selected Carter in the second round of the MLB draft as the 50th overall pick, signing him for $1.25 million. This was a notable selection as he was not considered a top prospect by many publications at the time. He began his professional career with the Down East Wood Ducks in 2021, though his season was cut short by a stress fracture in his lower back.

In 2022, Carter played for the Hickory Crawdads and Frisco RoughRiders, where he earned the Tom Grieve Player of the Year award for the Texas Rangers organization and a Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove award for his outfield play. He continued to progress through the minor leagues, with a brief stint in Triple-A with the Round Rock Express before his Major League debut. Carter was called up by the Texas Rangers on September 8, 2023, making an immediate impact by reaching base safely in his first 16 games. He played a significant role in the Rangers’ 2023 postseason, setting an MLB record with nine doubles in a single postseason and contributing to their World Series championship.

His career has been marked by several injury setbacks, including a lower back injury in 2024 and multiple stints on the injured list in 2025 for a right quad strain, back spasms, and a fractured right wrist. Despite these challenges, Carter has demonstrated resilience, returning to play and contributing to his team. He is also known for his philanthropic efforts, having raised over $100,000 for charitable programs in his hometown through the sale of his “Jesus Won” T-shirts.
