Frances Quinn was a designer before she rose to stardom by winning the fourth season of the mega hit BBC TV series The Great British Bake Off in 2013. Creative cakes with lots of flavour and flair are Quinn’s favourite things to bake. Since she was five years old, she has been baking, and her unique cakes are always in high demand among her friends and family.
After completing a Textile Design degree at Nottingham Trent University, she worked for design firms in Vancouver and London. She is frequently asked whether she prefers baking or design, but she never had a choice; instead, she invariably combines the two. She is continuously coming up with new ideas, whether it is for fabric or food design. This serves as the catalyst for her creativity and the key component in her original, delicious creations.
Quinn finds inspiration in everything, including food and clothing. An idea, design, or concept that she often finds simpler to express by “painting” on her imagination always serves as the beginning or end of her creative process. Before she ever picks up a spoon, she likes to sketch out designs and mix them with recipes to satisfy both her own and other people’s thirst for creativity. For Quinn, what inspires her the most about designing with food is the effect, reaction, and sensations it produces.
