Franco Javier López Escamilla, born on April 29, 1981, in Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico, began his journey in entertainment with a strong interest in music. After his parents divorced in the summer of 1997, Escamilla relocated with his mother to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, where he pursued formal music education at the Escuela de Musica y Danza Superior de Monterrey. Prior to his widespread recognition in comedy, Escamilla held various jobs, including working as a chef at a burger establishment, a waiter, and at a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet. He also delved into criminology studies for three years before ultimately deciding to dedicate himself to his artistic career. His professional debut as a musician occurred at the Trovafest in 2016, showcasing his diverse talents early in his career.
Escamilla’s career as a comedian gained significant momentum, leading him to perform extensively across Mexico, Latin America, and beyond. He embarked on successful “World Tours” such as “Por la Anécdota,” which included sold-out performances in major international cities like Los Angeles, London, Paris, Barcelona, and Tokyo. His standing in the comedy world is evidenced by his status as the first comedian to perform at the National Auditorium in Mexico and at Carnegie Hall in New York in February 2020. He also made a presentation in English at Staples Center alongside Gabriel Iglesias, further solidifying his international presence. Escamilla has produced multiple comedy specials for Netflix, including “Comedians of the World,” “Por la Anécdota,” “Welcome to the World,” “Eavesdropping,” and “Ladies’ Man,” expanding his reach to a global audience.
Beyond stand-up, Escamilla has demonstrated his versatility as a writer, director, and actor. He has been involved in projects such as “Ralph Breaks the Internet” (2018), “The Waiter” (2021), and “Blue Beetle” (2023) as a voice actor or actor. His creative endeavors also include “El Show de Franco Escamilla” on Estrella TV and contributions to Comedy Central. He founded “La Diablo Squad,” a comedy collective with whom he performs and broadcasts “La Mesa Reñoña” live on YouTube. In 2018, United Talent Agency (UTA) signed Escamilla to manage his career across various domains, including touring, film, television, and brand partnerships, reflecting his growing influence in the entertainment industry. In 2023, he participated in the Freestyle Master Series (FMS) Spain under the name “Lobo López,” showcasing his skills as a freestyler.
