Gisela Dulko

Gisela Dulko was born on January 30, 1985, in Tigre, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. She began her tennis career early, moving to Miami, Florida, at the age of twelve to pursue professional play. As a junior, Dulko achieved significant success, securing three Grand Slam titles in doubles: the 2000 US Open with María Emilia Salerni, the 2001 Wimbledon Championships with Ashley Harkleroad, and the 2002 Australian Open with Angelique Widjaja. Her professional career began in January 2001, and she quickly established herself on the WTA Tour.

Throughout her senior career, Dulko demonstrated consistent performance, particularly in doubles. She reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 26 on November 21, 2005, and won four WTA singles titles. However, her greatest accomplishments came in the doubles circuit, where she earned 17 WTA titles and achieved the world No. 1 ranking on November 1, 2010. Her most notable doubles victories include the 2010 WTA Tour Championships and the 2011 Australian Open, both alongside her partner Flavia Pennetta. Dulko also reached the mixed doubles final at the 2011 US Open with Eduardo Schwank.

Dulko was recognized for her consistent play and ability to challenge top-ranked opponents. She notably defeated Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon in 2009 and Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 2004. Her career prize money totaled $4,246,105. Dulko retired from professional tennis on November 18, 2012, at the age of 27, citing a diminished drive and willingness for the necessary sacrifices to compete at the professional level.
