Paulo Coelho

Paulo Coelho began his celebrated career as a lyricist, collaborating with prominent Brazilian musicians such as Elis Regina, Rita Lee, and Raul Seixas. In 1986, after undertaking a significant journey along the 500-plus mile Road of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, Coelho published his first major literary work, ‘The Pilgrimage,’ in 1987. The following year, 1988, he released ‘The Alchemist.’ Initially, it had a small print run, but after the publication of his subsequent book, ‘Brida,’ in 1990, ‘The Alchemist’ gained significant international recognition. HarperCollins published it in 1994, leading to its status as a global bestseller.

In recognition of his significant contributions to literature, he was inducted into the Brazilian Academy of Letters in 2002. The enduring appeal of his seminal work was further highlighted in 2016 when ‘The Alchemist’ became a New York Times bestseller, affirming its lasting influence on readers globally. That same year, he was listed at number 2 in Richtopia’s prestigious ranking of the 200 most influential contemporary authors. Continuing his creative endeavors, Paulo Coelho initiated a children’s book project with basketball legend Kobe Bryant, a collaboration that was unfortunately discontinued following Bryant’s passing.

Coelho remains a revered figure in global literature, with his symbolic narratives continuing to resonate with millions across the globe.
