Glenn Scarpelli is a former child star and singer best known for playing the role of Alex Handris in the sitcom One Day at a Time from 1980 to 1983. However, Glenn has accomplished so much more than that in all his time in the entertainment industry, from stage to screen and even away from the spotlight. Born and raised in Staten Island, New York City, the superstar was brought up in a very artistic family, his father Henry Scarpelli being an artist for the long-running Archie comics. Glenn even featured in issue #330 in 1984.
The acting sensation attended St. Joseph Hill Academy, all the while developing a very promising career in the spotlight on the side. He made his Broadway debut in 1977 at the tender age of 10, in a production of Golda, alongside Anne Bancroft. He returned to the stage two years later in the role of Richard, Duke of York in an adaptation of the classic play Richard III, starring the one and only Al Pacino. In 1980 Glenn booked his greatest and most memorable role yet, on One Day at a Time, a role he held for three whole years and shot him to fame.
He eventually left the One Day at a Time gang for NBC sitcom, Jennifer Slept Here. Glenn’s other notable works include the NBC series Amazing Stories by the great Steven Spielberg, MacGyver and The Love Boat. In 1983 he also became co-host of the NBC game show, Fantasy. Glenn established the Sedona Now Network in 2003 with his then-partner, a community television station. In 2019 he made a surprise cameo appearance in Netflix’s revival of One Day at a Time.
