After earning his National Master title in 2011, Levy Rozman, known as GothamChess, went on to establish himself as a prominent chess instructor and master-level player. His dedication to teaching began in 2010, initially coaching chess for $10/hour as a high school sophomore. By 2013, as a college freshman, he was teaching chess 20 hours a week across New York City.
His expertise led him to manage his own K-12 chess program starting in 2015, where he successfully guided teams to multiple city and state championships. Rozman further advanced his playing credentials by obtaining his FIDE Master title in 2016, followed by the International Master (IM) title in 2018. He reached his peak FIDE rating of 2421 in August 2018, solidifying his status as a high-level competitor and educator. Further solidifying his status as a leading authority, Rozman authored ‘How to Win at Chess: The Ultimate Guide for Beginners and Beyond,’ published in 2023, which quickly became a New York Times Best Seller. That same year, his impact was recognized by Forbes, who included him in their prestigious 30 Under 30 list for Games. Beyond his professional endeavors, Levy Rozman established the Levy Rozman Scholarship Fund in 2021, committing $100,000 to support and advance scholastic chess programs. Demonstrating his enduring passion for competitive play, he announced his return to competitive over-the-board chess in April 2024, with the stated ambition of achieving the Grandmaster title, highlighting his ongoing pursuit of excellence both on and off the board.
