Having had a longstanding association with The Independent, Hamish McRae is a renowned economic commentator and an award-winning writer and broadcaster.
Of his extensive work on the future of business, society and economics, McRae has long featured in the leading national publication The Independent writing columns on business and finance. Known as an expert in his field, McRae has contributed to other well-known publications including the London Evening Standard and the Daily Mail.
A published author, one of McRae’s most notable works on the future is The World in 2020: Power, Culture and Prosperity. Of his other books, he co-authored Capital City – London as a Financial Centre alongside Frances Cairncross and in 2010 his book What Works: Success in Stressful Times went on to be long-listed for Business Book of the Year in FT/Goldman Sachs Awards.
Alongside his writing career, McRae has held a number of senior lecturing roles at top institutions including Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin and Visiting Professor at Lancaster University’s School of Management. In addition to being a council member at the Royal Economic Society, McRae also holds positions as Governor of National Institute for Economic and Social Research and is a Fellow at the Academy of Social Sciences. An award-winning journalist, McRae was named the Finance Journalist of the Year at the 2006 British Press Awards and has also received the David Watt Prize for his outstanding political journalism.
