Andrea Joyce, the first woman to co-host network television coverage for a World Series during the 1993 event, has built a distinguished career spanning decades in sports broadcasting. Her early career included roles as a news anchor and field reporter for KMGH-TV in Denver and KTVH-TV in Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Detroit’s NBC affiliate WDIV-TV. By 1987, Joyce had become the weekend sports anchor for WFAA-TV in Dallas, where she demonstrated a resourceful approach to reporting, securing interviews with prominent sports figures. Her national career commenced in 1988 with ESPN, making her debut as a reporter at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.
During her tenure with ESPN, she also covered significant events such as the NFL Draft and the French Open Tennis Championships. In 1989, Joyce joined CBS Sports, beginning a ten-year tenure covering a wide array of premier sporting events. She made her on-air debut at the 1989 U.S. Open Tennis Championships and served as co-host for the weekend and Opening and Closing Ceremony coverage for three Winter Olympic Games: the 1992 Albertville Games, 1994 Lillehammer Games, and 1998 Nagano Games.
Notably, Joyce was the only woman to do play-by-play during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and reported from the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing. Most recently, Joyce earned a Sports Emmy in 2024 for Outstanding Live Special Championship Event, recognizing her contributions to NBCUniversals coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she also served as a reporter.
