Renowned for her pioneering achievements in combat sports, Holly Holm became the first person to win championship titles in both boxing and mixed martial arts, solidifying her status as a generational athlete. Before her groundbreaking MMA career, Holm achieved significant success in professional boxing, where she held multiple welterweight titles and was twice named Ring Magazine female Fighter of the Year in 2005 and 2006. She secured the International Rules Adult Women’s Welterweight Division title at the International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) USA National Amateur Championship Tournament in September 2001 with an amateur record of 602 before turning professional. Holm became the undisputed welterweight champion in boxing in 2008 and notably avenged a prior knockout loss to Anne Sophie Mathis on December 2, 2011, by winning a unanimous decision in their June 15, 2012 rematch.
This historic win ended Rousey’s undefeated streak and is widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in combat sports history. At UFC 193, Holm was also awarded both ‘Fight of the Night’ and ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses. She continued to impress, earning another ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus after defeating Bethe Correia via knockout in 2017. Her commitment to the sport was further cemented when she signed a new six-fight contract with the UFC in 2019.
After a distinguished career within the organization, Holm was released by the UFC at her request in 2025. Demonstrating her enduring versatility and market appeal, she promptly signed with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions later that year, marking her highly anticipated return to professional boxing. In 2025, Holm made a victorious boxing comeback, securing a unanimous decision win against Yolanda Ochoa, showcasing her continued elite performance and significant drawing power.
