Hugh Dennis

Most people know Hugh Dennis as the starring character on BBC One’s sitcom “Outnumbered” or as one half of the comedy duo Punt and Dennis, but Dennis is a multi-talented English comedian, actor, writer, impressionist and voice-over artist. He has a 30-year long career in the performance industry ranging over dozens of shows.

Before he found success acting on the television screen, Dennis used his voice and signature comedic style to make a name for himself on the radio. He performed alongside Steve Punt on BBC Radio 1’s “The Mary Whitehouse Experience,” a topical comedy show. The iconic duo performed together for more than a decade on shows such as “The Now Show,” “The Party Line” and “It’s Been a Bad Week.” Then, he seamlessly transitioned from radio to television when he lent his voice to narrate CBBC’s “Sam and Mark’s Guide to Dodging Disasters.” He did voice-over and impressions on the puppet comedy show “Spitting Image” and other TV series on the BBC. Even after all these years, he still sticks to his roots: recently starring as the narrator in CBBC’s “The Zoo,” and ITV’s “Yorkshire Airport.”

The funnyman’s extensive resume shows his comedy chops. He has been on every episode of “Mock the Week,” BBC Two’s satirical comedy show. He has appeared in the sitcom “Not Going Out” since 2014 and played GP Piers Crispin in the sitcom “My Hero.” For 7 years, he starred in “Outnumbered,” which he received a BAFTA comedy nomination for. He is also regularly featured on the panel of comedy game shows such as “They Think It’s All Over,” “Would I Lie to You?” and “QI.” He also acted in multiple episodes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s award-winning show “Fleabag.” With decades in the comedy field, Dennis still manages to keep audiences laughing with his fresh takes and original wit.
