Hunter Henry received the prestigious John Mackey Award in 2015 as the nation’s best tight end, solidifying his status as a unanimous All-American in the same year. His decorated collegiate career at the University of Arkansas also included Freshman All-American honors in 2013 and multiple First-team All-SEC selections in 2014 and 2015, alongside a Second-team All-SEC nod in 2013. A pivotal moment from his college tenure included a lateral pass in a critical overtime game against Ole Miss in 2015, which directly led to a game-winning touchdown. Following his standout college career, Henry was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round, 35th overall pick, of the 2016 NFL Draft.
He immediately made a significant impact in the league, scoring 8 touchdowns in his rookie season, tying for the second-most by a rookie tight end in a decade, and earning him a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Over five seasons with the Chargers, which later became the Los Angeles Chargers, Henry consistently demonstrated his value as a reliable target. Despite a season-ending torn ACL in 2018, he proved his resilience and continued to perform at a high level. In the 2020 season, his final year with the franchise, he recorded 60 receptions for 613 receiving yards and four touchdowns, showcasing his reliable hands and consistent presence in the passing game.
Further demonstrating his commitment to community engagement, Hunter Henry was honored with the New England Patriots 2025 Ron Burton Community Service Award, an accolade that reflects his active involvement and dedication to initiatives off the field.
