Jahmyr Gibbs

Jahmyr Gibbs was born on March 20, 2002, in Dalton, Georgia. He developed into a notable football talent during his high school years at Dalton High School, where his performance on the field began to attract significant attention. As a sophomore, he ran for 897 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. His junior season saw him accumulate 1,431 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. In his senior year, Gibbs led the state of Georgia with 2,554 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns, earning recognition as a first-team all-state selection, the Georgia 6-A 2020 Offensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American by Sports Illustrated. He concluded his high school career with 4,882 rushing yards and 70 touchdowns.

Gibbs began his college football career with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 2020. In his collegiate debut against UCF, he showcased his capabilities by returning the opening kickoff 75 yards and finishing the game with 219 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, earning him the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Week award. He continued this strong start by scoring five total touchdowns in his first three games, with a receiving touchdown in each. For his freshman season, Gibbs recorded 460 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 89 carries, along with 303 receiving yards and three touchdowns from 24 receptions. He also contributed significantly as a return specialist, tallying 205 yards from eight kickoff returns, which earned him honorable mention All-ACC. In 2022, Gibbs transferred to the University of Alabama, where he played for the Crimson Tide. During his time at Alabama, he achieved notable performances, including 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Arkansas, and 154 rushing yards against Texas A&M. He completed the 2022 season with 926 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 151 carries, complemented by 444 receiving yards and three touchdowns from 44 receptions.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, Jahmyr Gibbs was selected by the Detroit Lions in the first round as the 12th overall pick. In his rookie NFL season, he formed a dynamic partnership with fellow running back David Montgomery, often referred to as “Sonic” and “Knuckles” due to their contrasting yet complementary running styles. Gibbs made his NFL debut in the 2023 NFL Kickoff Game, contributing 42 rushing yards and 18 receiving yards in a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. He scored his first career touchdown in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens. A significant game in his rookie year was against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he accumulated 152 rushing yards and a touchdown on 26 carries, with five receptions for 37 yards. He recorded his first multi-touchdown game against the Los Angeles Chargers, achieving 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, along with 35 receiving yards. By the end of his rookie season, Gibbs had 945 rushing yards and ten rushing touchdowns, plus 316 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in 15 games. He was recognized as a Pro Bowl Alternate and named to the 2023 PFWA All-Rookie Team. The 2024 season further solidified his impact, as he earned Pro Bowl honors and led the league with 20 total touchdowns, setting a Detroit franchise record for most touchdowns in a single season. He finished 2024 with 1,412 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns, alongside 517 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
