Martin Adams

Martin Adams was born on June 4, 1956, in Sutton, London, England. He began his darts career playing in local pubs and later, after being made redundant from Lloyds Bank in 1992, he transitioned to professional darts. Adams quickly established himself as a prominent figure in the sport, representing Cambridgeshire at the county level and serving as the captain of the England darts team from 1993 to 2013, making him the longest-reigning England captain.

Throughout his career, Adams consistently achieved high-level performances in BDO and WDF events. He made his BDO World Darts Championship debut in 1994, marking the beginning of a record 25 consecutive appearances. Despite early challenges, including multiple semi-final and quarter-final losses, Adams’ persistence paid off. He reached his first BDO World Championship final in 2005 and ultimately secured his first World Championship title in 2007. This was followed by two more World Championship victories in 2010 and 2011, solidifying his status as a three-time BDO World Champion. He also achieved three World Masters titles in 2008, 2009, and 2010.

In addition to individual accolades, Adams has won numerous other tournaments, including four Dutch Open titles and multiple WDF World Cup and Europe Cup events. He has also participated in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, notably reaching the semi-finals of the 2001 World Matchplay. In 2016, Adams was diagnosed with prostate cancer but was given the all-clear by the end of the year, demonstrating his resilience both on and off the oche. More recently, he reached the final of the 2022 World Seniors Darts Championship, further highlighting his enduring presence in the sport.
