James Lutz

Born on March 31, 1998, James Lutz is an American compound archer. He made his international debut in 2019, securing his first Archery World Cup win in Türkiye. That same year, he won the individual World Archery Championships title in the Netherlands, becoming the fifth compound archer from the United States to achieve this feat. In the final, he defeated Anders Faugstad of Norway. His early career also included participating in The Vegas Shoot in Las Vegas, United States, where he finished 26th in the men’s compound event in 2020.

Lutz continued his career progression by winning a gold medal in the men’s team event at the 2021 World Archery Championships in Yankton, USA. He also competed in the men’s individual compound and mixed team events during the same championships. In 2022, James Lutz represented the United States at the World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, competing in the men’s individual compound event. He further demonstrated his skill at the 2022 Pan American Archery Championships in Santiago, Chile, where he earned a gold medal in the men’s team event and a bronze medal in the mixed team event.

In 2024, Lutz had a significant season, culminating in a victory at the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in Mexico. During this event, he achieved perfect 150 scores in his last three matches, showcasing his precision and consistency. He is recognized in the archery community for his “punching” style, which has become more common. Outside of competition, James Lutz is married to Danelle Wentzel-Lutz, also an accomplished archer, and they welcomed their first child, Talya, in 2024.
