Salsa king Jefferson Benjumea turned heads with his partner Adrianita on Season 4 of the popular TV dancing competition World of Dance. The talented pair was so good on the NBC show – which is produced by megastar Jennifer Lopez – that they earned a Best Choreography Emmy nomination after just two of their performances had aired. Famous for their incredible acrobatic tricks and lightning fast footwork, the married couple have won major salsa competitions around the globe including World Salsa Open, World Salsa Summit and World Latin Dance Cup. Regarded by many as one of the best salsa dancers in the world right now, Benjumea has also started training competing in Ballroom dance with Adrianita, combining Ballroom’s technique and finesse with the raw energy of Colombian salsa to make their own innovative style of dance.
Hailing from Cali in Columbia – also known as the “World Capital of Salsa” – Benjumea is one of the best known dancers from his home city. Although he began dancing with Adrianita Avila over 16 years ago, the two time Salsa World Champions only began to dance professionally as a couple around a decade ago. World of Dance showcased the couple’s exceptional talent on the silver screen and their incredible chemistry and enthralling performances made them fan favourites from the start. Since reaching the final of the television dance competition Benjumea’s career has continued to sky rocket, and the dancing couple are now the proud parents of Derek, named after Benjumea’s idol and World of Dance judge Derek Hughes.
