Jen Sincero was born on August 7, 1965, in Westchester, New York. She attended Briarcliff High School and later Colorado College, graduating in 1987 with a BA in English. Her early career included working in the marketing department at CBS/Epic Records in the 1990s, where she co-founded her first band, Crotch. In 1996, Sincero moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, forming the Jenny Clinkscales Band and later the solo project 60 Foot Queenie. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2000, she worked as a freelance writer, creating marketing materials for the recording industry, magazine articles, and blogs.
Sincero’s writing career began with her semi-autobiographical novel, ‘Don’t Sleep With Your Drummer’ (MTV Books, 2003), followed by ‘The Straight Girl’s Guide to Sleeping With Chicks’ (Simon & Schuster, 2005). A significant turning point in her career occurred in 2008 when she began facilitating business development workshops for Ladies Who Launch, which led her to establish her own practice as a success coach. This experience, combined with her personal journey of self-improvement, inspired her to write ‘You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life’ (Running Press, 2013).
The ‘You Are a Badass’ series propelled Sincero to widespread recognition. The book became a New York Times bestseller in 2015 and has sold over 5 million copies. She has since published several follow-up books, including ‘You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth’ (Viking, 2017), ‘You Are a Badass Everyday: How to Keep Your Motivation Strong, Your Vibe High, and Your Quest for Transformation Unstoppable’ (Viking, 2018), and ‘Badass Habits: Cultivate the Awareness, Boundaries and Daily Upgrades you Need to Make Them Stick’ (Viking, 2020). Her work has earned her an Audie Award for her narration of ‘You Are a Badass’ in 2014 and a finalist spot for the 2022 Audie Award for ‘Badass Habits’.
