Young PGA Professional Tour golfer Jim Knous had swung his way into the world top 500 before a wrist injury in 2019 forced him to take a break. Now he is back, stronger than ever, and looking to work his way back up the ranks. A PGA competitor since 2017, among his best results to date are a top-ten finish in the 2019 Safeway Open and two top-fifteen finishes in the Wells Fargo Championship and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Known to some as “The Hard K” because of how his surname is pronounced (ker-nouse), Knouse was born in the Colorado town of Basalt, right in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, perhaps not the most obvious setting for a pro-golfer to grow up in. Yet Knous was always a keen sports player, and as well as golf, he also excelled on his high school basketball team. But after graduating from the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Civil Engineering, he embarked on a professional golf career, looking to follow in the footsteps of heroes such as Jack Nicklaus.
After several years of trying, Knous finally won a place on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2018. He finished inside the top 30 and won a much-coveted PGA Tour Card for that season. Over the following year, he truly began to make an impact, working his way steadily up the world rankings and the earnings table. An unfortunate injury meant that he had to leave the 2019-20 tour early, but he is now recovered and back in full swing.
