United States Jim Sciutto is CNN’s Chief National Security Analyst and anchor, providing in-depth analysis on U.S. national security and foreign policy.
CNN announced new speakers and an additional sponsor for its Global Perspectives: On Africa event. New speakers included representatives from DP World. Sessions were curated and moderated by prominent CNN journalists, including Jim Sciutto.

James Ernest Sciutto was born on March 10, 1970. He is an American journalist who has distinguished himself as a news anchor and chief national security correspondent for CNN since September 2013. In this capacity, he analyzes various topics related to United States national security, including foreign policy, military affairs, counter-terrorism, and the intelligence community. His career has taken him to over 50 countries, with significant reporting assignments in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Ukraine, and the Middle East.
Sciutto’s professional journey began in television as the moderator and producer of “The Student Press,” a weekly public affairs talk show on PBS. He later served as the Hong Kong correspondent for Asia Business News, where he covered the transfer of Hong Kong to China in 1997. His international reporting also included assignments in China, Mongolia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, and South Korea. Sciutto joined ABC News in 1998, initially working in Chicago before moving to Washington, D.C., to cover the Pentagon. From 2011 to 2013, he held the position of chief of staff and senior advisor to U.S. Ambassador Gary Locke at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, an appointment by the Obama administration.
He has authored four books. His work, “The Return of Great Powers: Russia, China and the Next World War” (2024), explores the shifts in the international order among major global powers. “The Shadow War” (2019) details Russian and Chinese efforts to counter the U.S., while “The Madman Theory: Trump Takes On the World” (2020) offers insights into President Trump’s foreign policy. His first book, “Against Us: The New Face of America’s Enemies in the Muslim World” (2008), analyzes the reasons behind Islamic radicalization. Sciutto is a graduate of Yale University, where he studied Chinese history, and was a Fulbright Fellow in Hong Kong from 1993 to 1994. He has been recognized with multiple honors, including the duPont-Columbia Award, Emmy Awards, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and the George Polk Award.
