In his role as Managing Director of Clean Energy Transactions for IPC, John oversees all aspects of the organization’s financing programs serving multifamily, nonprofit, government, and commercial building owners and commercial solar developers. He combines a background in development finance, clean tech venture capital, public policy, and consulting to catalyze the market for energy financing.
John Joseph D’Agostino’s career began after graduating cum laude from Williams College, studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University, and earning an MBA from Harvard Business School. He hails from a working-class background in Brooklyn, New York, securing scholarships to attend Regis High School and Williams College. Early in his career, D’Agostino joined the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) as Vice President and Head of Strategy. In this role, he played a crucial part in the transition of the trading floor to electronic trading and contributed to the development of core systems for co-location, quant, and High-Frequency Trading (HFT) volumes. A significant achievement during this period was leading the initiative to establish the first Middle East energy derivatives exchange in collaboration with the Dubai Government, a project chronicled in the New York Times best-selling books “Rigged” by Ben Mezrich and “The Start-Up Of You” by Reid Hoffman.
Following his tenure at NYMEX, D’Agostino held various leadership positions, including Director of Corporate Development at Second Market and Managing Director at KPMG Consulting. At KPMG, he was part of the firm’s global leadership for the Finance and Hedge Fund consulting groups, providing operational and strategic advisory services. Notable work included advising on the acquisition of the London Metals Exchange by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He later served as US Managing Director for Waystone Governance, one of the world’s largest fund governance firms, where he sat on the global governance committee and served on the Board of Directors for major asset managers, including prominent digital asset funds.
Currently, John D’Agostino is the Chief Executive Officer of Dagger Consulting LLC, a strategic consulting and advisory services firm he founded. He also leads Advisory and Strategic Partnerships for Coinbase Institutional and serves as Co-Chair of AIMA’s Digital Assets Working Group. Since 2018, D’Agostino has been on the board of Surf Air, an aviation and air charter company. Additionally, he holds adjunct lecturer positions at INSEAD, MIT, and Columbia Universities, teaching courses in Fintech and Governance. In 2019, he was appointed Chair of the UK Consulate’s Financial Services Working Group.
