John Strong, a distinguished play-by-play broadcaster, was recognized with Major League Soccers Broadcast Call of the Year in 2011 for his commentary on Darlington Nagbe’s goal for the Portland Timbers. Strong’s professional trajectory began to take shape with his first full-time radio position at Portland’s KXL radio in 2008, followed by a role at 750 AM ‘The Game’ where he produced ‘The Bald Faced Truth’ radio show and hosted ‘Strong at Night.’ He also served as the play-by-play voice for the Eugene Generals Junior Hockey team from 2005-2006 and broadcasted University of Oregon women’s soccer, softball, and lacrosse games. He transitioned into soccer commentary as the play-by-play announcer for the Portland Timbers in 2010, becoming the regular announcer for Timbers broadcasts on FSN Northwest in 2011. Strong further honed his skills by commentating Europa League games for Fox Soccer, culminating in calling the 2013 UEFA Europa League Final.
