Johnny Damon is a widely renowned American former professional baseball player who played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball between the years of 1995 and 2012. Damon notably played for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Indians. He also played for the national Thailand baseball team, playing in the 2013 World Baseball Classic qualifiers.
Since his professional days, Damon has appeared on television on several occasions, notably hosting shows such as WWE Raw and appearing on MTV Cribs. He has also appeared on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ , ‘Tanked’ and more. In 2019, he appeared alongside his wife as one set of primary charter guests on the show, ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’.
Born in Kansas, Damon moved around a great deal, owing to his father being in the army. Damon played for the South Orange Little League as a child, before he attended high school in Orlando and was rated as the top high school prospect in the US by Baseball America. Damon was also named on USA Today’s High School All-American team and the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year.
Damon made his debut for the Kansas City Royals in 1995 and played for the team up until 2000, scoring 104 runs in 1998 and 101 in 1999.
After spending a year with Oakland Athletics, he signed for Boston Red Sox in 2002 with a four-year $31 million contract. In 2003, he became the second player in history to record three base hits in an inning. In 2006 he signed a $52 million contract with the New York Yankees and hit 53 home runs in his three seasons with the Yankees. Damon finished his career with 2,769 hits, which placed him 54th on the List of Major League Baseball career hits leaders. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of fame and Museum in 2018.
