John Christopher “Johnny” Depp II was born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Betty Sue Palmer, a waitress, and John Christopher Depp, a civil engineer. He grew up in Florida and left school at 15 to pursue music, fronting bands like ‘The Kids.’ He moved to Los Angeles with ‘The Kids’ and worked various jobs, including as a ballpoint-pen salesman. A turning point came when his then-wife introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage, who encouraged him to try acting. This led to his film debut in the horror movie “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984).

Depp’s career progressed rapidly, achieving stardom in 1987 as undercover cop Tommy Hanson in the TV series “21 Jump Street.” He transitioned from teen idol roles to working with director Tim Burton, notably in “Edward Scissorhands” (1990), where he played the title character. This collaboration marked the beginning of a series of critically acclaimed and often idiosyncratic roles, including “Ed Wood” (1994) and “Donnie Brasco” (1997). His portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” (2003) brought him global recognition, an Oscar nomination, and established him as one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. Beyond acting, he founded the film production company Infinitum Nihil in 2004 and co-founded the rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires in 2015.
