Johnny Yong Bosch

Born John Jay Bosch on January 6, 1976, in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Garland, Texas, Johnny Yong Bosch developed an early interest in martial arts, inspired by figures like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. This passion led him to win several martial arts competitions. His entry into entertainment began in 1994 when his martial arts teacher informed him about auditions for “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” He secured the role of Adam Park, the second Black Power Ranger, replacing Walter Jones in the show’s second season. He continued this role in subsequent franchise installments, including “Power Rangers Zeo” and “Power Rangers Turbo,” and the films “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie” and “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.” Bosch even performed his own stunts for the first Power Rangers movie after his stuntman suffered an injury. He reprised his role as Adam Park in “Power Rangers in Space” (1998) and later in the 15th-anniversary episode “Once A Ranger” of “Power Rangers Operation Overdrive” in 2007, and most recently in the 30th-anniversary Netflix special “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” in 2023.

Bosch’s career saw a significant turning point with his voice acting debut as Shōtarō Kaneda in the 2001 redub of the anime film “Akira.” This role opened doors to extensive work in anime and video games, where he gained widespread recognition. He notably voiced Vash the Stampede in “Trigun” (2001), Ichigo Kurosaki in the “Bleach” franchise (2006-2014, and again in “Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War” from 2022), and Lelouch vi Britannia in “Code Geass” (2008). His video game credits include Nero in “Devil May Cry 4” (2008) and “Devil May Cry 5” (2019), Yu Narukami and Tohru Adachi in the “Persona 4” series, and Broly in the “Dragon Ball” franchise and Sabo in the “One Piece” franchise starting in 2019. Beyond acting, Bosch is also a musician, having formed the band Eyeshine and later Where Giants Fall, where he serves as vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist.

His versatility as an actor and voice artist has earned him a diverse range of roles across various media. He has contributed to animated series such as “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba” as Giyu Tomioka (2019-2024), “Blue Exorcist” as Yukio Okumura (2012-present), and “Sailor Moon” as Artemis. He has also taken on directing roles, with his first film “Ark Exitus” released in 2020. Bosch’s ability to transition seamlessly between live-action performances and complex voice roles, coupled with his musical endeavors, highlights his multifaceted talent and enduring presence in the entertainment industry.
