World-renowned legal scholar Jonathan Turley is an American attorney and author who has written numerous academic articles for leading law journals. He was ranked 38th in Judge Richard Posney’s top 100 “public intellectuals”, and was found to the be the second most cited law professor in the US, and was ranked as one of the 100 most famous (past and present) law professors in 2016. A professor at the George Washington University Law School, he is one of only two academics to testify at both the Trump and Clinton impeachment hearings. He was awarded an honorary doctorate of law from John Marshall Law School in 2008 in recognition of his career as an advocate of constitutional rights and civil liberties, and was ranked among the top 500 lawyers in the U.S in 2008. His blog was ranked as the top legal theory blog and top law professor blog by the American Bar Association Journal survey in 2008.
Turley has appeared frequently in the media commenting on a number of different topics, including the Terry Shiavo case in 2005 and the 2000 U.S. presidential election controversy, and often appears on Sunday talk shows including ABC This Week, Fox News Sunday, Meet the Press and Face the Nation. He has been the NBC and CBS news legal analyst since the 1990s, and has also worked as legal analyst for the BBC, covering stories including the presidential elections and the Clinton impeachment. He has also contributed to numerous papers and national publications including Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal and Los Angeles Times.
Turley is currently The George Washington University Law School’s Shapiro Chair for Public Interest Law and is the youngest person to receive an academic chair in the history of the school.
