Josh Segarra was born on June 3, 1986, in Longwood, Florida, and is of Puerto Rican descent. From an early age, he developed an interest in performance, initially singing in his Pentecostal church and later aspiring to be a professional wrestler. His passion for theater became evident during his middle and high school years, where he took on lead roles in musicals such as “The Music Man,” “Footloose,” and “Fame: The Musical.” He also showcased his vocal talents as the lead singer of an a Capella group that performed for the governor of Florida, earning several theatrical awards including a Best of Show in Duet Musical at the Florida Thespian State Competition. In 2008, Segarra graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, majoring in Theatre, where he continued to cultivate his skills in singing and beatboxing as part of the N’harmonics a Capella group.

Segarra’s career began with early roles in television and film, including an appearance in the CBS movie “Vampire Bats” during his freshman year at NYU. From 2009 to 2011, he held a main role as Hector Ruiz in the PBS Kids Go series “The Electric Company.” He expanded his theater portfolio by originating roles in musicals such as “Lysistrata Jones” (2011) and “Dogfight” (2012). His television presence grew with recurring roles in “Sirens” (2014–2015) and “Chicago P.D.” (2014–2016), and he made his feature film debut in Judd Apatow’s “Trainwreck” (2015). A significant turning point in his stage career was originating the role of Emilio Estefan in the Broadway hit “On Your Feet!” (2015–2016).

His career progression continued with a series regular role as Adrian Chase/Prometheus on The CW’s “Arrow” (2016–2019), and subsequent guest appearances in its later seasons. Segarra has been a recurring cast member on HBO Max’s “The Other Two” since 2019 and featured in Netflix’s “AJ and the Queen” (2020). He also took on diverse roles as a special agent in “FBI” (2020–2021) and a pastor in the musical film “Christmas on the Square” (2020). More recently, he starred as Augustus ‘Pug’ Pugliese in the Disney+ series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” (2022) and Danny Brackett in the slasher film “Scream VI” (2023). His current work includes roles in Apple TV+’s “The Big Door Prize” (2023–2024) and “Abbott Elementary” (2024-2025), showcasing his versatility across various genres and platforms.
