Julian Montoya

Julian Montoya, the acclaimed captain of the Argentina national rugby team, achieved a historic first win over New Zealand in Christchurch in 2022, also leading his side to a significant away victory against England at Twickenham the same year. Montoya earned his first cap for Argentina in 2014 against Uruguay, later scoring his first senior international try against Chile. His early professional club career saw him join Pampas XV in 2014 and later Jaguares in 2015, a team formed to participate in Super Rugby. He represented his country in the Rugby World Cup in 2015 and 2019, consistently demonstrating his formidable talent on the international stage.

Montoya secured a significant move to Leicester Tigers in January 2021, following the disbandment of Jaguares. He made an immediate and profound impact in English rugby, scoring five tries in his first six games and contributing to the team reaching a European Challenge Cup final in his inaugural season. His first full season with the Tigers saw him play a key role in the club securing its first Premiership title in nine seasons in 2021-22, starting 18 Premiership games, including the decisive final against Saracens. To date, Montoya has accumulated an impressive 23 tries in 44 games for Leicester Tigers.

His exceptional performance was recognized with his inclusion in the Premiership’s Team of the Season for a second consecutive campaign in 2022-23. In June 2025, it was confirmed that Montoya would depart Leicester Tigers to join French side Pau in the Top 14 for the highly anticipated 2025-26 season, marking the next chapter in his distinguished career.
