Julie Chen

Julie Suzanne Chen Moonves was born on January 6, 1970, in Queens, New York City. Her education includes a double Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and English from the University of Southern California, which she completed in 1991. Her career in television began with an internship at CBS Morning News in June 1989, where she handled administrative tasks. The following year, she joined ABC NewsOne as a desk assistant, progressing to a producer role for three years. In 1995, Chen moved to Dayton, Ohio, to work as a local news reporter for WDTN-TV, a position she held for two years. She then returned to her hometown, New York City, in 1997, to work as a reporter and weekend anchor at WCBS-TV.

Chen’s career gained significant momentum in 1999 when she became an anchor for both CBS Morning News and The Early Show. In July 2000, she began her long-standing role as the host of the American version of the reality-television program Big Brother. From 2002 to 2010, she served as a co-host of The Early Show. A turning point occurred in 2010 when she became a co-host and moderator for the CBS Daytime talk show, The Talk, which premiered on October 18, 2010. She continued in this role until 2018. During her tenure, she received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host in 2017 with her co-hosts.

In 2018, Chen released her first children’s book, “When I Grow Up.” She also released an audiobook in 2023, “But First, God: An Audio Memoir of Spiritual Discovery.” Throughout her career, she has made guest appearances on various television series, including “The Millers,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Supergirl.” She has maintained her role as the host of Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother, becoming a familiar face in reality television. Her professional journey includes significant positions in news and entertainment broadcasting.
