Canada Kaleigh Rafter has transitioned from a decorated Olympic softball player to a national team head coach and specialist in high-performance coaching development.
Mizuno Canada and Softball Canada extended their multi-year partnership, ensuring Mizuno continues as the apparel provider for the Women's National Team.
Kaleigh Rafter, born on August 18, 1986, in Guelph, Ontario, has been a significant figure in Canadian softball for over a decade. Her journey began at age four, playing t-ball, which led to a collegiate career split between the University of Detroit (2005-2007) and Florida State University (2009). During her time at the University of Detroit, she set a single-season home run record in 2007, earning Horizon League Player of the Year honors. Rafter joined Team Canada’s women’s national team in 2007 and has maintained a prominent role since, participating in numerous international competitions.
Throughout her playing career, Rafter achieved notable success. She competed in two Olympic Games, placing fourth at Beijing 2008 and securing a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020. Her Pan American Games record includes silver medals in 2007, 2011, and 2019, and a gold medal at the 2015 Toronto Games. She also contributed to bronze medal finishes at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship in 2010, 2016, and 2018. In the 2019 WBSC Americas Olympic Qualifier, Rafter demonstrated significant offensive skill with a .462 batting average and three home runs, which helped Canada qualify for Tokyo 2020. After her collegiate career, she played professionally in Japan for Team Honda for two seasons.
Following her retirement as a player, Rafter transitioned into coaching and athlete development. She served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Virginia starting in 2016 and later at Florida State University, where she primarily focused on catchers and offense. Rafter completed the International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP) in 2025, becoming the first Canadian coach to do so since its inception in 2008. As part of this program, she developed the High-Performance Coach Development Program for Softball Canada, aiming to enhance coaching education and modernize athlete development strategies across the country. She is currently the head coach for Team Canada, leading the next generation of Canadian softball players.
