Kayla Imrie has established herself as a leading figure in canoe sprint, achieving Olympic representation and multiple World Championship medals. After qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in the NZ WK4 at the World Championships in Milan in 2015, Kayla Imrie rapidly established herself as a leading figure in canoe sprint, achieving Olympic representation and multiple World Championship medals. Her impressive trajectory began with her senior international debut at World Cup 1 in Portugal earlier in 2015, following an influential experience at the Australian Youth Olympics in 2009 which solidified her dedication to the sport. Since October 2014, Imrie has been coached by Rene Olsen at the prestigious New Zealand High Performance Sports Centre, where she continues to hone her competitive edge.
Imrie proudly represented New Zealand at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, where she competed in the Women’s K-4 500 metres event. Alongside her skilled teammates Jaimee Lovett, Caitlin Ryan, and Aimee Fisher, her crew achieved a commendable fifth-place finish in the medal race, showcasing their formidable teamwork on the global stage. Building on this success, Imrie went on to secure a bronze medal at the 2017 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Ra?ice, competing once again in the K-4 500m event. Her medal haul continued to grow at the 2018 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships held in Montemor-o-Velho, where Imrie distinguished herself by earning two silver medals.
Additionally, Imrie actively contributes as a Teacher Aid, showcasing her dedication to education and community engagement outside of the demanding world of competitive canoe sprint.
