Kelly Vanderbeek is a former Olympic Athlete, Television host, and broadcaster. Although she learned to ski on a hill with nothing but a rope tow, through perseverance and hard work she made her way to be able to compete with the best. As an Olympic downhiller Venderbeek began making her mark by winning the Super-G and Downhill events on the Nor-Am Cup in 2002. She would go on to win the Canadian Junior Athlete of the Year and compete in several Europa Cup events as well. In 2006 Vanderbeek became the first Canadian woman to place 3rd at the World Cup downhill in Lake Louise. Vanderbeek’s success would continue to go on as she went on to place 2nd at World Cup events in 2007 and 2008 before retiring in 2013.
Vanderbeek’s ability to succeed against all odds would then translate outside of sports as she began a new career as a Television Host and Broadcaster without any formal training. During the Vancouver and London Olympics for CTV Vanderbeek worked as an analyst and host followed by working as a guest host for Sportsnet, CBC, and Sportscene. This would go on to open opportunities for her such as co-hosting alongside Craig McMorris at the PeyongChang Winter Olympics.
Vanderbeek’s impressive media prowess helped her gain notoriety as a strong and likeable personality with inspirational insights on how to overcome fears and obstacles. As a public figure, Vanderbeek continues to spread her message of resilience, and work ethic throughout events and organizations such as 50 Global Leaders of OMERS, Mountain Travel Symposium, Radiology Research Day and more.
