Kin Shriner has long established himself as one of America’s most-loved soap actors. He is most famous for playing Scotty Baldwin in over 640 episodes (and counting) of ABC’s General Hospital, the longest-running soap opera currently showing in America. He has also appeared in numerous episodes of The Young & The Restless, The Bold & The Beautiful, and As the World Turns, perhaps the biggest names in American soap operas. His CV also includes some of the most seminal TV shows of the last 50 years, including The Six Million Dollar Man and The Waltons.
Shriner hails from New York, but also spent time living in Texas as a child. He took up acting and made his screen debut in 1976 in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man. The following year, he was cast as Scotty Baldwin in General Hospital, a character he has played on and off ever since. He also played Baldwin in Port Charles, a late ‘90s spin-off that ran for over 700 episodes.
Shriner first left General Hospital in 1980 to play Jeb Hampton in Texas, a soap on the rival NBC network, but he returned the following year. He then starred in many episodes of Rituals, a mid-‘80s soap that aired in America and later in France. Over the years, he has taken breaks from General Hospital, often to play main characters in some of America’s other most popular soaps. His current run, however — he last returned in 2013 — is his longest to date. However long it lasts, Shriner’s place in American soap legend is assured.
