Kristen Schaal

Kristen Schaal was born on January 24, 1978, in Longmont, Colorado. She was raised on her family’s cattle ranch and attended Skyline High School, graduating in 1996. Schaal pursued higher education at the University of Colorado in Boulder for a year before graduating from Northwestern University. Following her studies, she moved to New York in 2000 to launch her comedy career. Her talent was recognized early, leading to her inclusion in “The Ten Funniest New Yorkers You’ve Never Heard Of” by New York magazine in 2005.

Schaal continued to build her career in live comedy, earning critical acclaim and several awards in 2006, including “Best Alternative Comedian” at the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival and the Andy Kaufman Award. Her work extended to television, where she gained significant recognition for her role as Mel in the HBO series “Flight of the Conchords” and as a commentator on “The Daily Show.” Her versatile voice work became a cornerstone of her career, notably as Louise Belcher in the animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers” starting in 2011, and as Mabel Pines in “Gravity Falls” from 2012 to 2016. She also lent her voice to the character Trixie in the “Toy Story” franchise.

Her career progression includes co-starring roles in live-action series such as “The Last Man on Earth” alongside Will Forte (2015-2018) and playing Number Two in “The Mysterious Benedict Society” on Disney+. In 2017, she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for her role as Sarah Lynn in Netflix’s “BoJack Horseman.” Schaal also expanded her creative work into writing, co-authoring the humor book “The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex” with her husband, Rich Blomquist, in 2010.
