About

Kurt Russell, born on March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and raised in Thousand Oaks, California, began his acting career early. His initial roles as a child on television series, including a lead in “The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters” (1963-1964), quickly garnered attention. At eleven years old, Russell secured a role in the Elvis Presley film “It Happened at the World’s Fair” (1963). Walt Disney himself signed Russell to a 10-year contract, making him a top star for the studio throughout the 1970s. During this period, he also pursued a minor league baseball career as a switch-hitting second baseman for teams like the Bend Rainbows (1971) and Walla Walla Islanders (1972). A career-ending shoulder injury in 1973 precipitated his full return to acting.

Russell’s transition to adult roles was marked by his Emmy-nominated performance as Elvis Presley in John Carpenter’s ABC TV movie “Elvis” (1979). This collaboration with Carpenter proved pivotal, leading to iconic roles such as Snake Plissken in “Escape from New York” (1981) and R.J. MacReady in “The Thing” (1982). His performance in “Silkwood” (1983) earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Russell continued to build a diverse filmography, starring in notable films such as “Big Trouble in Little China” (1986), “Tango & Cash” (1989), “Backdraft” (1991), and his critically praised portrayal of Wyatt Earp in “Tombstone” (1993). He also co-starred in “Stargate” (1994) and reprised his role as Snake Plissken in “Escape from L.A.” (1996), which he also co-wrote and produced.

In the 2000s and beyond, Russell maintained a consistent presence in Hollywood, acclaimed for his role as U.S. Olympic hockey coach Herb Brooks in “Miracle” (2004) and appearing in Quentin Tarantino’s “Death Proof” (2007) and “The Hateful Eight” (2015). He joined major franchises, portraying Mr. Nobody in three “Fast & Furious” films (2015-2021) and Ego in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (2017) and the animated series “What If…?” (2021-2023). Russell also starred as Santa Claus in the Netflix films “The Christmas Chronicles” (2018) and “The Christmas Chronicles 2” (2020), further showcasing his range.
