Josh Bernstein

Josh Bernstein has transitioned from a wilderness survival expert and acclaimed television host to a founder of initiatives focused on sustainability, education, and exploration, guiding audiences through global mysteries and the challenges facing humanity. After becoming President & CEO of the Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS) in 1997, Josh Bernstein went on to establish himself as a leading voice in adventure and exploration, hosting over 50 hours of prime-time documentary content across major networks. Bernstein began his 25-year tenure with BOSS as a student in 1988, progressing through the ranks to eventually lead the oldest and largest survival school in the United States. In 2005, he premiered as the host of the History Channel’s ‘Digging for the Truth,’ which quickly became the network’s highest-rated adventure-archaeology series.

A Fellow of The Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society, Bernstein has also amassed extensive travel experience, traversing over two million miles across more than 80 countries and all seven continents. Currently, Josh Bernstein serves as the Founder and Chair of the First Light group of companies, an umbrella organization encompassing First Light Institute, First Light Studios, First Light Education, First Light Expeditions, and the First Light Foundation, a dedicated 501(c)(3) charity. Through this expansive endeavor, Bernstein focuses on addressing global challenges related to human and planetary sustainability, fostering engagement, advocacy, and action. His ongoing multi-media series, ‘Explorer At Large,’ continues to build a deeper connection between people and the planet, reflecting his overarching mission to guide audiences through global mysteries and the critical challenges facing humanity.
