Lawrence Thomas Guy was born on March 17, 1990, in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a child, he faced learning challenges, being diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and dyscalculia, which led to him being placed in special education classes. Despite these early obstacles, Guy excelled in football. He attended Western High School in Las Vegas, where he recorded impressive statistics, including 238 tackles and 30.5 sacks over three seasons. His performance earned him recognition as a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, ranking as the No. 13 defensive tackle prospect nationally, with offers from several major universities.
Guy committed to Arizona State, playing college football for the Sun Devils from 2008 to 2010. As a true freshman, he played in all 12 games, starting eight, and recorded 44 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, and two sacks. His collegiate performance earned him consensus All-Freshman honors from FWAA, The Sporting News, and College Football News. His professional career began when he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL draft. After his time with the Packers, he moved to the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, then to the San Diego Chargers in 2013, and later joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2014. With the Ravens, he recorded 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks in the 2015 season.
In 2017, Guy signed with the New England Patriots, marking a significant period in his career. He played a key role in the Patriots’ defense, contributing to their Super Bowl LIII victory in 2019. During his tenure with the Patriots, he also made an impact off the field, being nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2022 due to his charitable efforts through the Lawrence Guy Family Foundation. He continued with the Patriots until 2023, and briefly joined the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024 before being released in November of that year.
