Kiko Alonso

Kristian “Kiko” Alonso, born on August 14, 1990, in Newton, Massachusetts, embarked on his football journey early, attending Los Gatos High School in California. He excelled in high school, leading his team in tackles and showcasing versatile skills. His collegiate career at the University of Oregon was notable, despite facing suspensions due to legal troubles. Alonso redshirted in 2008 and, after a suspension in 2010, returned to become a key defensive player. In 2012, he was a second-team all-conference honoree, recorded 87 tackles, and was named the Rose Bowl Defensive Player of the Game, impressing scouts with his talent and resilience.

Alonso entered the professional ranks after being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. His rookie year was highly successful, earning him the PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year award after recording 159 combined tackles, four interceptions, and two sacks. He quickly became known for his aggressive play and ability to make significant defensive contributions. However, his career was frequently interrupted by injuries. A torn ACL in 2014 sidelined him for an entire season and marked the beginning of a series of setbacks.

Over his career, Alonso played for several NFL teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles (2015), Miami Dolphins (2016-2018), New Orleans Saints (2019-2020), and a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers (2020), before returning to the Saints in 2022 and announcing his retirement. He was known for his leadership on the field and his dedication despite recurring injuries, including multiple ACL tears. His professional journey reflects a commitment to the sport, even as physical challenges ultimately led to his retirement.
