Dr Lindsey Doe is the woman behind Sexplanations, the hugely popular YouTube channel with more than 1 million subscribers. Since launching the channel 10 years ago, Dr Doe has made well over 400 videos covering just about every of sex possible through what she terms sexedutainment. Her content has been watched more than a quarter of a billion times. She recently returned to her channel after a year-long break, during which she travelled and generally re-energised her batteries. She is now back and posting content with as much spark and originality as ever.

Dr Doe received her doctorate from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in California and began working as a sexologist and a professor at the University of Montana. In 2013, her frustration at the lack of quality sex education available to her children inspired her to start the Sexplanations YouTube channel with the help of established vlogger Hank Green. However, Doe has always been the main focus of the channel and has never been afraid to use her platform to speak out: a 2015 video she made in response to a boy pressuring her daughter into a date went viral, helping the channel’s reputation, but more crucially, highlighting issues around harassment.

Dr Doe’s famously meticulous approach to her videos has helped to make her channel special but also perhaps contributed to her 2022 sabbatical. However, true to the channel’s tagline (‘stay curious’), she embarked on a unique journey: shaving her hair off, renovating a house in Slovenia, visiting family all over the world, and more besides, before returning to her rightful place as one of America’s most important and accessible sex educators.
